And So It Goes
The Old Vic, 7th Feb 2016
Bob Chilcott’s arrangement of the Billy Joel Song. Solos Andy Ewing & Georgie Ferris. A somewhat hastily rehearsed performance, on the stage of the oldest working theatre in the English speaking world. Happy Birthday Bristol Old Vic!
American singer-songwriter Billy Joel wrote and recorded this song for his 1989 album Storm Front. It has proved itself something of a classic, and he still performs it regularly in concert.
At the time Joel’s album came out, choral composer Bob Chilcott was the tenor voice in The King’s Singers, and he wrote a six-part harmony arrangement of this song for the group. His arrangement opened the door for other vocal ensembles and choirs to perform the song, and it has been particularly popular in America.
