Swing Down
Gurt Winter Concert 2012, Bristol Beacon
Swing Down Sweet Chariot is a traditional Spiritual, popularised by the Golden Gate Quartet in the 1940s. There are thousands of versions, including a few interesting and eclectic ones: the original The Golden Gate Quartet version, Parliament Funkadelic, The Apollas, Sweet Adelines quartet, Elvis Parsley.
Founded in 1934, The Golden Gate Quartet began as a traditional jubilee quartet with rhythms borrowed from the blues and jazz, like scat singing. Though the makeup of the group has changed over the years, the Quartet still exists, 76 years after its birth.
This is the Gurt Lush version.
